Other
Valuable Experiences |
1995-1999:
AIESEC
President (98-99)
HR co-ordinator (96-98)
Organising Committee President (95-96)
The local University Student organisation AIESEC
is part of the largest student organisation globally. The organisation
gives students the opportunity to develop themselves and their
skills and allows them to open their horizons through exchange
programmes and the international conferences and networks it
offers. As part of the National Committee we were responsible
for the running of the organisation, the training and development
of members, the promotion of the AIESEC vision and the running
of programmes. The organisation was going through an important
shift in its direction and over the years in the organisation
managed to consolidate the efforts of the three committees and
started seeing results by the last term as president. The Committee
was committed to work on the five global themes of the organisation
which included, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Cultural
Understanding, Higher Education and Learning, Information and
Society and Entrepreneurship. To this end apart from working
on our core competence which was exchange of students we organised
several activities in line with these themes. CSR was locally
a relatively new concept which we worked hard to give more prominence
to through seminars, publications and exchange.
Achievements:
• As HR co-ordinator, maintained a high membership of
400 students and continued to develop the organisation’s
membership education cycle.
• As President, led an eight-strong team to have an international
seminar organised locally for 500 European AIESEC members, turned
the finances of the organisation around leaving the organisation
with a very positive financial situation, strengthened the HR
of the organisation leaving active members who eventually ran
and led the organisation also internationally, and for the first
time locally introduced an international student on the national
committee.
1993-1995: Mini
European Assembly
• Participated in the Mini European Assembly, a 6 month
competition, in which different teams debate upon selected issues
relevant to European socio-political nature.
• Co-ordinated the school team representing St. Edward’s
College
1993-1994: Young
Enterprise
Sales Director
Young Enterprise is an entrepreneurial, start-up
programme for students.
Skills
• Entrepreneurial skills
• Basic knowledge of company start-up and running
• Team Dynamics
• Product Development and production
• Marketing and product development
• Communication
1994-2002: Private Tutor
Teaching Economics at ‘O’ Level,
‘A’ Level and University level on an individual
basis or for small groups of less than 3. Rather than a job
teaching provided an opportunity to sharpen and develop understanding
of the subject whilst helping young students grasp the economic
concepts. In most cases students showed good progress and passed
with good grades.
